The rule behind the ad you clicked
- Platform
- Audience
- Lookback
I build paid and retargeting programs for B2B companies. I run the same setup on my own site, and I'd rather show you how it works than describe it in a sales call. If you got here from one of my ads, the box above names the rule that served it. If you came here directly, the table below lists every rule I use.
None of this identifies you by name. The ad platforms know that a browser visited markbarrera.com or engaged with one of my posts. I see aggregate counts, such as how many people are in an audience and which job functions they hold. I never see a list of who you are.
Every rule I use
| Rule | Who is in it | Where it runs | Lookback |
|---|---|---|---|
| Site visitors | Anyone who opened a public page on markbarrera.com | LinkedIn, Google, Meta | 180 days |
| Readers | Anyone who read a guide or a Field Note | LinkedIn, Google, Meta | 90 days |
| Services pages | Anyone who looked at how I work, a services page, or the growth diagnostic | LinkedIn, Google, Meta | 90 days |
| Post engagers | Anyone who reacted to, commented on, or watched one of my promoted LinkedIn posts | 365 days | |
| Monthly scan | People at companies included in my monthly website scan of B2B startups | The month of the scan | |
| Promoted posts | Founders, CEOs, and marketing leaders at B2B companies, starting in Texas. This is the only rule that reaches people who haven't been to my site. | None |
Two more rules keep the ads from becoming a nuisance. Newsletter subscribers are excluded, since you already get everything I publish. And each audience sees a small set of ads that I replace every few weeks, so you shouldn't see the same one over and over.
What the tags collect
The site loads the LinkedIn Insight Tag, the Google Ads tag, and the Meta Pixel on public pages only. They record the page viewed and whether someone signs up for the newsletter. That is the whole list of events. Client pages, proposals, and private links load no tracking at all. The full detail is in the privacy policy.
The numbers
Once campaigns start, I'll publish what I spend, how large each audience has grown, how often people see the ads, and what each newsletter signup cost, including what didn't work. Those updates will appear in Field Notes each month.
How to opt out
If your browser sends a Global Privacy Control or Do Not Track signal, none of my tags load and you won't join any of these audiences. You can also adjust ad settings directly with LinkedIn, Google, and Meta.
