I’m Mark Barrera.
I’m a marketing consultant in Austin, a dad to two girls, and husband to a first-grade teacher.
I’ve spent more than 20 years in digital marketing. I’ve built an agency, sold it, and led marketing teams inside companies with very different products and ways of making money. Today, I run Mark Barrera Consulting LLC and work directly with the people who hire me.

Search is a strength I bring to a much broader job
SEO has been a central part of my career. My work also crosses positioning and messaging, content, paid acquisition, conversion optimization, and analytics. I care about what connects them: how someone finds the business, understands the product, and decides to buy.
That’s the question I bring to AI search, too. I want to understand what the intended buyer is being told and whether the explanation helps them choose.
I’ve owned the business and led inside it
I built and sold an agency. At TrustRadius, I served on the leadership team and connected audience and review generation to qualified pipeline during the company’s growth from seven-figure to eight-figure revenue.
At Ziff Davis, I helped acquire and integrate three Black Friday properties in two years. I ran product, editorial, and audience strategy for a portfolio monetized through affiliate commerce, advertising, and media partnerships.
At Newfold Digital, I grew the marketing team from a handful of people to about 50. I served on the Bluehost leadership team and built board reporting with transaction readiness in mind. Those roles taught me to keep the business decision close to the marketing work.
A lot of my career has happened in the community, too
I served as president of SMC Dallas, and as chairman and president of DFWSEM, the Dallas-Fort Worth Search Engine Marketing Association. I was also founding chairman of the State of Search Conference in Dallas.
I still bring ideas from those rooms into my work. My Field Notes include observations from client projects and events such as Zero Click SF and AirOps Next NYC.
Closer to home, I coached my daughter’s soccer team and served on my HOA board.
Outside work, family comes first
Most of all, I love time with my family, traveling and finding adventures together. I also love boating, cooking, and fishing: freshwater, saltwater, and fly fishing.
Today, you work directly with me
I run MBC as one senior operator. AI infrastructure supports the research and execution, and I stay responsible for the work we agree to do.
You can bring me a focused project or a need for ongoing senior support. I work with growth-stage B2B SaaS and fintech marketing leaders, including teams improving a program that already works and teams sorting out what needs to change.
